{"id":41592,"date":"2016-04-27T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.cpanel.com\/?p=41592"},"modified":"2016-04-27T13:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-04-27T18:00:00","slug":"the-cpanel-market-provider-and-free-hostname-ssls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devel.www.cpanel.net\/blog\/products\/the-cpanel-market-provider-and-free-hostname-ssls\/","title":{"rendered":"The cPanel Market Provider, and free hostname SSLs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In cPanel &amp; WHM version 56 two of the most exciting new features we released were the cPanel Market Provider, and the automatic generation of Free hostname SSLs for anyone with a valid cPanel license.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Market Provider<\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Summary: We are providing a method to integrate marketplace modules that offer free or paid products within cPanel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Release Notes:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/ALD\/56%20Release%20Notes#id-56ReleaseNotes-ManageMarketProviders\">Manage Market Providers<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Availability: 55.9999.122 and later<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">This service is currently <strong>disabled<\/strong> <strong>by default<\/strong>, can be disabled for all of your Licenses in Manage2, and can be enabled through WHM &gt;&gt; Market Provider Manager<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">This feature will be expanded on for version 58.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/ALD\/Market+Provider+Manager\">Market Provider Interface<\/a> in WHM is an interface for server administrators to create their own \u201cMarket\u201d provider modules, through which you can currently sell SSL certificates, and which can be expanded on to sell anything else through the cPanel interface.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The first release of this feature is in v56, and comes with the cPanel Store provider module, which allows users to purchase COMODO and cPanel-signed SSL certificates within the cPanel user interface. Once the purchase is complete, the system will automatically download and install them without the need to leave the cPanel interface.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.cpanel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/MarketProviderManager-600x410.png\" alt=\"MarketProviderManager\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s2\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/span> If you enable this provider module, a <strong>commission equal to one-third<\/strong> of the sales price of the certificate will be credited to your selected cPanel Store account. The pricing is per domain, and you can adjust it within the provider module in WHM.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.42857;\">We very much want to add functionality to this feature, and these are the things at the top of our list:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Free multi-domain Domain Validated (DV) certificates for all users. (This is in addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/features.cpanel.net\/topic\/provide-support-for-lets-encrypt-automated-certificate-management-ssl\">Let\u2019s Encrypt plugin<\/a> mentioned on our <a href=\"https:\/\/features.cpanel.net\/\">Feature Request site<\/a>).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Availability of Organization Validation (OV) and Extended Validation (EV) certificates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\" style=\"line-height: 1.42857;\">Automatic renewal of SSL certificates.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">The most exciting part of this, in our opinion, is the ease with which\u00a0<strong>you can create your own module<\/strong>. We have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/SDK\/How+to+Create+a+cPanel+Market+Provider+Module\">documented that process\u00a0<\/a>in our SDK, and are so very excited to see what you will come up with.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Installation of a Free DV Hostname Certificate<\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Summary: If the certificate for your server&#8217;s hostname does not validate, your server will automatically order, download, and install a <strong>FREE<\/strong>\u00a0DV-signed SSL certificate from the cPanel Store.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Release Notes:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/56Docs\/56+Release+Notes#id-56ReleaseNotes-FreecPanel-signedhostnamecertificate\">Free cPanel-signed Hostname Certificate<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Availability: 55.9999.114 and later<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">This service is currently <strong>enabled by default<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">You can <strong>disable<\/strong> this part of the tool\u00a0for all of your Licenses in Manage2, or on a single server\u00a0by touching this file: \/<span style=\"line-height: 1.42857;\">var\/cpanel\/ssl\/disable_auto_hostname_certificate<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">We updated the tool \u2018checkallsslcerts\u2019 that runs every night to also to automatically order, acquire, and install a DV SSL certificate for the hostname of the server on the exim, dovecot, cPanel\/WHM, and ftp services. This is only done in the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">If the installed SSL is self-signed<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">If the installed\u00a0SSL has been revoked<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">If the installed\u00a0SSL has a weak signature algorithm<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">If the installed\u00a0SSL is invalid<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">If the installed SSL\u00a0will expire in less than a week<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\">None of the domains on the certificate are configured on or resolve to the server<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\" style=\"margin-left: 30.0px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/span> Your server must have a valid and active license to automatically order, download, and install this no-cost hostname DV certificate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">If your hostname isn&#8217;t current, you should update it! You can do so <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/ALD\/Change+Hostname\">through WHM<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.cpanel.net\/display\/ALD\/Change+Hostname\">on the command line<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>Our Goal: Make it Easier to Build\u00a0A Secure Internet<\/h1>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">We are excited to deliver these new features, and we hope that they advance both the business of web hosting and the security of online communications.
